Banning Weapons or Maps?

Completely agree with this. Thankfully the weapons come in sets, b/c that means to get a really good gun, means your sub weapon, and special will not be as great.
I can see Special Weapons potentially being banned. They seem very off from the rest of them.

curious.. TF2 doesn't have weapon sets right? You can mix and match?
Yes, you can have a variety of loadouts. Weapons are only restricted to classes, and some aren't even.

yes, tf2's weapons are entirely independent (most are class specific weapons though,) leading to some really... interesting builds

some are either overpowered or just hurt the meta in some way (slowing down the pace of the game) and they get banned as a result

if you can't mix and match in splatoon, honestly that might be for the better for the sake of balance

Yep, that's actually awesome for us then.
edit: also I wonder if any other game has gone down the path of weapon sets and if they ever needed to ban any particular sets

If you can't mix and match in Splatoon, i'll be kinda dissapointed. Forced loadouts are.. not so fun.

yeah, i think being able to get creative with your loadout is honestly one of my favorite things to do in a shooter game, so if they're set that's too bad... but it also means it's (hypothetically) easier to balance. win/lose situation i guess

I personally think that the maps and weapobs should be all available in competetive/tourney unless it's seen as being destructive to the competetive scene. It's fairly early to make a judgement call but I think an effort should be made to make all the maps and weapons legal.

I'm not sure what effort there is to make, it's all a matter of whether the game is balanced or not. I personally don't like equipment but I'm sure it's implemented correctly.. I hope so, anyway.

kinda wish clothes were purely cosmetic and perks were assigned to either your weapons or were just... selectable perks

I agree. This is something that is going to bother me a lot.

i hope they're not entirely random, as well.. like equipment has set perks on a date, with some way to predict them

like you can roll back your date on your wii u to 7/21/2015 or 5/6/2016 or whatever to buy a certain item from a store

that would at least make it more bearable to get the builds you want

Imbalances in weaponry or maps will most likely result in an immediate ban to neutralize all aspects of competitive gameplay. Simple as that.

I can see various equipment and clothes being potentially banned. However, the Smash competitive scene is largely different from what the Splatoon competitive scene can potentially become. It may benefit the scene for clothing to be tourney legal......that sounded so wrong...

splatoon barely has anything in common with the smash scene other than some overlap, like a lot of smash players being interesting in splatoon

competitive splatoon reminds me a lot of tf2, counter strike, and even cod, so we're probably going to see some bans for problematic equipment and weapons

Let's hope Nintendo balances issues like this.

well the splatoon director said he plays shooter games with his friends and he's making splatoon to appeal to an audience like that, so i would imagine he and nintendo would vaguely pay attention to the community and their complaints with the balance should it come to that

But what would make them take into consideration the flaws of a community based restriction if the opportunity of banning weapons/maps became an issue?
I'm not sure. We'll have to see I guess.

optimistically, yes

realistically, i'm not so sure. i think they will, considering they've made attempts at balancing smash and mk8, and they're pushing splatoon as a game that appeals to casual and serious players alike. the answer at the moment, though, is unclear
