It took me a while to realize that Guardian is actually the Crucible handler himself... right? The guy who, after a certain point in The Taken King, allows you to get a sword as a quest reward?

I think his name is Lord Shaxx or something. I can't remember. I haven't played Destiny in several weeks, and the only name that really stuck to me was Cayde-6, because he's voiced by Nathan Fillon as of Year 2. Don't know if he was there in Year 1 because I didn't play very much at all during Year 1. lol

Indeed, you're correct about both of those. After you collect around 50 Hadium Flakes, I think, along with doing a few other things will reward you with one of these three swords. Eventually, he will grant you the chance to get exotic 'upgrades' to the three swords.
The Sol Edge, the Arc Edge, and the Void Edge. Lots of edge,lots of maiming,lots of flakes. Their exotic versions are Raze-Lighter, Bolt-Caster, and Dark-Drinker, respectively.
And all of the NPCs currently in the tower were there in Year 1, Shaxx was there, Cayde-6 was there and already voiced by Nathan Fillion. The only character that lost their voice actor would be the Player, as of the Taken King they no longer talk.

Playing the game: Zero from the Megaman series, the avatar appears to be fanart of an actual sprite found in the game. Which is Zero's talk-face sprite I believe.

Eh, the Player still speaks, at least in the story missions from Year 1. All of Ghost's lines were re-recorded by his Year 2 actor, though; no more half-asleep Peter Dinklage. lol

You are correct; this was my personal attempt at an "HD version" of his dialogue mugshot from Mega Man Zero 4. The Game Boy Advance pixelation of the original was bothering me a bit, even though it looks good in-game as far as I'm concerned. My old avatar here was the original mugshot itself, actually.
