Surprised it was out so early. Wonder if this means weapon releases and new maps will get launched on Thursdays now.
It would be cool if the reason they did it on Thursday, or decide to start doing it on Thursday is something thoughtful like "We don't want people trying out the new weapon to be clogging the Splatfest.".

It's probably more along the lines of, "Carl over there accidentally sat on the weapon release button, so we're going to do it on Thursdays for now on."

Typical Carl move, IMO.

So, I ordered Splatoon 2, and it got here yesterday...

And it was the wrong region.

Just finished playing "Return to Sender". Won't get my refund till original sender gets it back, meaning I can't order the right version till I get my refund, and then I'll need to find the right regional version and wait another few days for it to get here.

Massively Salty Squid here...

...How did that even happen? Sheesh, that's rough, sorry to hear that you're dealing with that.

T'was because november 3rd is a national holiday in Japan, thus they released a day early in respect for Culture Day.

So NOW, the original seller won't get the game back till WEDNESDAY, meaning I won't get my refund till then, meaning the earliest I'll have the game is FRIDAY.

Also, how appropriate (NOT) that I get my 500th like and the "I LOVE IT!" trophy by getting 2 likes on a post filled with my disappointment at receiving the wrong version of Splatoon 2...

The iron e is strong with this one, amirite? Sorry this has happened to you. As someone hailing from the European region I can only say this much; sending it back and getting the correct copy was the right choice. Not only because of timezone differences, no, our playerbase has two notoriously large and bad groups and you really don't want to go through that and get locked out of Splatfest everytime the NoE decides to keep it regional which is way more often than cross-regional. I crai evritaim since 90%+ of my friends are from the US/Canada.

Just because these two groups exist doesn't mean the playerbase is worse on average.

You need to be more specific when asking these questions. I have absolutely no idea what your problem is.

Yes, it may sound extreme and outlandish and I'm absolutely certain that the EU-US playerbases are pretty much on equal skill levels. And yet the "The grass is always greener on the other side"-syndrome will come up everytime regional Splatfest cuts me off from the rest of the world. After having played two of these Splatfests and one of them pretty much twice, my average teams felt ... different. Could be my imagination though. *shrugs* Sorry if I offended anyone here, I thought the irony was already strong enough since I'm part of that very playerbase, lol.

Sorry. I assumed because I quoted a section, it would be clear that I'm asking about the section I quoted. That's on me.

So:

1. What's this about two notoriously large and bad groups for the EU region? I've somehow never heard of this before now.

2. I was under the impression, based on something @Dessgeega said around the last North American Splatfest, that Splatfests were locked to the copy of the game you play. So having the EU version of the game means you're locked into the European Splatfests, but not locked out of Splatfests overall. This could be an issue for some or not, depending on if real life friends play Splatoon or not, but it may also be a negligible difference on a case-by-case basis. Of course, it's always possible that I'm wrong about this as I am often wrong.

I hope this gives you the clarity you seek. I'm mostly interested in finding out about that first point if you are willing to elaborate.

1. G&K and Cst, though the G&K infestation is over the most part, so that might've helped the case. Cst while not entirely bad is a group that lets in just about everyone, so quantity > quality.

2. Uh, sorry, I wrote some weird tohuwahobu when writing that passage. What I meant by "get locked out of Splatfest" is getting locked out of the Splatfests from your original region, so if you're in the US/Canada and I just go assuming most of your friends will be that by default, you get "locked out" of the US quad-Splatfest action and have to make do with what you get. Hint: About as wonderful as every other single queue. :D

Ohhh. Okay, yes. I heard about those groups, but I had no idea that was a European infestation. From what I've heard, that's rough.

And I agree... The difference between quad-Splatfest and solo Splatfest is as big as the difference between getting a back rub and getting each and every one of your fingers smashed in with a hammer. One's pretty dope and the other is Hell on Earth.

Since I haven't seen anyone mention it, here's Japan's latest splatfest, whether to add lemon to food or not. Sure, why not? All bets are off after the toilet paper splatfest. Starting to wonder why so many involve food, though! Oh and I'm team lemon

Any EU players have any thoughts on the Splatfest that just ended? I had a pretty great time. Won a lot, and had no mirror-matches at all.
It's just too bad we only get so short to play on these Shifty Stations. This one was pretty intricate and was unlike any other map in the game, so I could've used some more time on it and try some different weapons. Only thing is, the colors were blue vs orange, and there were some orange lights in the stage that reflected in the ink, making a lot of blue spots look like orange. Kind of annoying.
From what I've heard, that's rough.
It's not.

Isn't it specifically about fried foods? I'm sure it makes sense to Japanese people, so I don't think it's as weird as it sounds.

Anyone who doesn't pick team lemon is inhuman. On the other hand, I'm sure there will be a big plaza festival with squids celebrating their opinion on lemons. I wonder how best to have such an event. Maybe someone should google lemon par.....nevermind. </meme>

Yes, good. I agree with this executive decision

Lock them behind a paywall so I never have to play them again
No. you must play Moray Towers EVERY SINGLE ROTATION! It's like Marie's little revenge against squidkind for her pop stardom falling.

Interesting, so solo splatfest is infamously awful? I thought it was just me. Usually only the second half of the day but you can go tentacles to the wall berzerk inking, killing and tearing through like a one squid demolition squad, only to still be decimated more times than not. I've only done some squad fest. Honestly we were getting kind of screwed with lagathon enemies that way too with some really obscene losses. :P
