Talk about culture shock... four days in and I can practically count the number of Japanese players I've teamed with on one hand. Is there actual regional matchmaking at work, or am I just getting stupidly (un)lucky?
You're not alone in that regard. I was joking to a friend that A, there's regional matchmaking, B, the community's exploded enough for us to consistently get people from our own region, or C, all the Japanese players ascended to a higher plane of existence.

You forgot D, the japanese are still trying to get a Nintendo Switch, every restock is sold in minutes there

Just now starting the final sector of the Hero Mode campaign myself. Took my sweet time and picked up the scroll and sardine-thingy for each stage. Now if I have to redo any stages I can just speed run through them.

And while taking a break from that I played around with my empty weapon inventory consisting of the Splattershot Jr., Splat Charger, and Inkbrush♥. Turns out that when you activate the Sting Ray you cannot super jump at anytime, or even pre-load a super jump, until your meter is depleted. However, you can super jump while wearing Ink Armor and keep it for its duration. You can also activate Ink Armor before landing, but you're still bound to the charge up time before it fully activates. And Splashdown can be pre-loaded as early as immediately after picking your destination. Instead of the sudden midair pause before slamming down she'll just come roaring in without pause. Not sure how much time that shaves off, if at all.

Literally everyone at high levels used damage up, quick respawn/stealth jump, or some combination thereof. How is that not centralizing?
Just as many peeps picked ink recovery/ swim speed up which were a lot more widespread than damage up. It helps that on a lot of weapons the shots to kill is hardcapped which kept damage up in check, sorta.
The only worry i have is that the charger playstyle is going to be a lot more boring from now on.

Quick respawn was kinda cheese in Splatoon 1 but now it's an utter joke of an ability. They could've just removed it rather than leave it like this.

Yeah I don't know what'll happen with Chargers. I keep half-charging close range opponents, expecting my damage to splat them. Nope. I guess we can just get used to it but I'll miss it.

I don't mind the QR nerf. It's still useful for the new players. Some of my friends are actually getting Switches (nobody has a freakin Wii U) so when they get Splat2n I can recommend them QR and Swim Speed until they get better.

Have there been lots of Connection issues? The only time I have had was rarely trying to start a match.
From what I have seen server preformace is super good.
For me at least, most of it is my ISP to blame. Most hours it works great with little to no errors, other times....not as much. But to be fair, it's handling better than Splat 1 was as of recent at least.

Higher demand most places. And the insane line lotto they are doing.

I really do feel sorry for people that can't get a switch. My brother is having that problem.

But hopefully it will be a multi colored Christmas... With millions of switches to appease fans...
And we get some awesome patches allowing us to have custom or different themes.

Does everyone no of the ticket exploit in the game its not a bug its just something nintendo overlooked in the story where you can go back and get money and experience tickets infinitely. sorry if this is not allowed.

Huh, I did not spot that. Good eye! Im a bit curious of it myself now...

Mm! Finally finished the first run through of Hero Mode with all collectibles collected. Managed to enjoy the boss battle even though parts of it were already spoiled for me, but at least one of the surprises still left for me was—
an ink rail battle with the best weapon in the game! Sheldon, you're now obligated to make me a Hero Rainmaker dammit!!!

And I've found yet one more reason to love the curling bomb♥:

I just couldn't resist dropping back in now that I got my router temporarily up and running properly and I was banished to single player only, I sure missed this game! :) I don't intend to get addicted like the first one, but it's sure nice to be back in Inkopolis!

It only works after you've been splatted 2+ times in a row. If it's your first death or if you've killed anyone at any point, it ceases to work until two deaths have happened.

Did anyone perchance get a screenshot of this? Sadly I missed it and I don't think that pic is there anymore :(

EDIT: Ahh sorry maybe the pictures change out when you close the app and go back in, I'll see if I can find it haha. However if someone does have a handy screenshot it'd still be nice to have ;)
