Turf war hate is WAY overblown
Sure its the worst competitive mode in the game... (although sometimes I feel like rainmaker takes that title but thats for another time)
But turf war isn't supposed to be competitive it is a CASUAL mode and I think it does a really good job at it
for newer players its great for teaching them how to play in a low stakes environment
and for players that know what they are doing its basically just tdm until now or never starts playing

Sure it has problems like spawn camping being the worst on this mode specifically due to there being no knockout feature
but thats really it

Now I personally don't like cueing up for turf war due to most of the time when I want to play splatoon I want to take my matches seriously and not just goof off so I prefer ranked modes
(and so when splatfest rolls around and says "you are now FORCED to play the casual mode" it stinks but that mode of a splatfest problem then a turf war problem)

I was going to say something about clam blitz being a good mode only to see it already mentioned. So I guess I go with another hot take I have (Also way hotter!) I don't think that the stages in splatoon 3 is that bad. Of course it's not like splatoon 1 stages which was peak and there is definitely some improvement that can happen with the stages. But I feel as for the most part the stages are good they all have modes that work best while having other modes which is not really all that good to play on. (Except mincemeat that stage can burn)

I think mincemeat's a very playable stage, post rework. There are interesting drops, ways to back up, every weapon has some decent position it can take. Even clam blitz is fine now post rework, but it feels like everyone's basing their opinions on the pre-rework version.

1. Eeltail
2. Scorch
3. Wahoo
4. Bluefin
5. Mincemeat

It should be impossible to place Big Bubbler on the Tower Control tower. Seriously, there’s no good reason for it. It’s just cheese.
Also, the tower should not have the pole in the middle. It makes fights way more awkward and the cover it provides only contributes to TC’s extreme snowballing issues.

It's better but most, if not all, of the problems it had before are still there. CB is much better on it now but that's not saying much honestly.
The drops are still awful with only one sponge to get back if you drop from left (except on CB) and the map still has you having to push through mid where any good charger or splatling can safely and easily pick you off before you can even start moving in.
If no one in your team has the range or a shield (hmmm) then you'll have to waste your entire special on just moving the backline weapon to get in.
This is all to say that the hate is totally deserved but Wahoo and Scorch are still worse, lol.

For me, most of the Splatoon 2 maps are very much fine. However, I'm interested in the S1 maps that were overhauled in 3, since they have some differences that make the older versions feel far less narrow. I'm considering making a comparison post for those.

flounder heights is the worst map in the game. or at least the least fun. the map favors sloshers, brushes, and rollers to a stupid degree. the verticality of the map is not fun and whoever makes first push in rainmaker is practically always going to win. tower control isn't fun, clams is subpar, and zones is double. this map is designed terribly. I really hope they get rid of it in splat 4 and add back moray and piranha pit.

To be fair, the map did get worse in Splatoon 3.
They took out a whole right side route which I'm sure would have helped deal with a lot of the issues the map currently has.

Flyfish would be perfectly fine if the maximum number of them on the stage at a given time were limited to two.
